Tiger Women Win Home Opener
MARSHALLTOWN, IA - The MCC women's basketball team (2-2) used their home court
advantage to score a 62-52 win over visiting North Central Missouri College (3-2) Wednesday night in non-conference action.
The Tigers took a 30-27 halftime lead to the locker room behind the scoring of sophomore Shana Lee (Milwaukee, WI). Lee scored 11 of her 17 points in the half, followed by freshman Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA) with 7. Salgado went 8-13 from the field and 5-5 from the charity strike to lead all scorers with 21 points.
The Tigers controlled the boards, holding a 42 to 31 edge over the Lady Pirates. Lee pulled down a game high 13 boards to lead all players. Freshman Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA), contributed 9 boards.
North Central Missouri struggled from the foul line going 5 of 13, while MCC went 15 of 18. MCC out shot the Pirates 42% to 34% from the field.
"Overall I thought we played our best 40 minutes so far this season," said head coach Alison Lacey. "Ashely really stepped it up tonight and played liked a college point guard, we need performances like that from her every night."
The Tigers will look to use their home court advantage again on Saturday, November 17, as they host South Australia. Tip-off at the Student Activities Center is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
