Iowa Valley Board approves non-faculty salaries

The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors approved a 2 percent salary and benefit package increase for all benefit-eligible non-faculty employees, including the Chancellor, when it met in special session July 1. The total package increase of 2 percent includes a 1.38 percent salary increase; the remainder covers increasing employee insurance costs, which will go up 4.29 percent in the 2015-2016 academic year.

IVCCD Chancellor Dr. Chris Duree told the Board, “In light of state general aid funding, which Gov. Branstad still has not signed off on, we feel this (percentage salary/benefit increase) is in the best interest of our institution. It’s what we feel comfortable doing to minimize as much as we possibly can the tuition increase that we anticipate bringing to the Board on July 8.”

The Board also approved an employment agreement with Chancellor Duree that includes the same percentage increase in salary and benefits as other non-faculty employees. Board Chairman Conrad Dejardin said the Board followed the same evaluation process for Dr. Duree as it had in the past, and that his contract is otherwise the same as last year. He said the Board discussed granting Dr. Duree a greater salary increase, but that the Chancellor said he wants no special consideration than what others will receive.

The IVCCD Board of Directors will meet in regular session on Wednesday, July 8, at 4 pm in Marshalltown.
