Monday / July 27, 2015
Iowa Valley Community College District Chancellor Dr. Chris Duree was presented with the 2015 Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT) Chief Administrator Award at the IACCT annual conference in Ottumwa last week. The award was presented by IVCCD Board Chairman Conrad Dejardin of Marshalltown.
Dejardin noted that Dr. Duree is an extraordinary leader who has dedicated over 30 years to education administration, including 18 years of service to Iowa’s community colleges, culminating in serving as the Chancellor of Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) since 2009.
The awards program reported that Dr. Duree has directed his leadership skills toward continuous quality improvement, serving underrepresented populations, and student success and completion, and he serves a vital role in community, statewide and national efforts promoting the comprehensive community college. He has established working relationships with partners in business and industry and education sectors in the Iowa Valley district that have resulted in the development of comprehensive and robust educational programs.
In accepting the award, Dr. Duree said his college education began at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, and that he never dreamed back then that he’d eventually hold a doctoral degree and be the chief administrator at a community college. He thanked the Iowa Valley Board members, his Administrative Leadership Team and staff, the many stakeholder groups that support Iowa Valley and its colleges, and his wife, Brenda, for their loyal and enthusiastic support.
