Oct. 7 Open House to honor Conrad Dejardin
Monday / September 28, 2015
Iowa Valley Community College District will honor retiring IVCCD Board Chairman Conrad Dejardin at a reception that’s open to the public on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 2:30 to 3:45 pm in Dejardin Hall of the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Conference Center at 3702 S. Center St. in Marshalltown.
Dejardin was elected to the IVCCD Board in 1998 following his retirement in 1996 from a nearly 30-year career as Vice President of Continuing Education & Community Services for Iowa Valley. He was elected Chair of the IVCCD Board in 2006 and has held that position throughout the remainder of his tenure; he elected not to seek re-election to the Board this fall.
Yvonne Mallory, IVCCD Board Vice Chair, says, “Conrad’s thoughtful and comprehensive approach has guided the District through the selection process of two IVCCD Presidents/Chancellors. He was at the helm during a successful $35 million bond issue for the development of several new buildings and increased academic and vocational programming throughout the District. As Board Chair, Conrad has assisted in finding prospective Board members who work for the betterment of the District as a whole and has fostered unity and common purpose among the Board.
“Conrad’s consistent presence, perseverance, and active involvement on behalf of all community colleges in Iowa are notable,” Mallory continues. “As a matter of record, Conrad has been involved in the defining, organization, development, and progress of IVCCD in tandem with the earliest efforts of Iowa State Senator John P. Kibbie, who introduced legislation establishing the Iowa Community College system in 1966.”
The public is invited to join the IVCCD Board and staff members in thanking Conrad for providing long-standing leadership and continuity to the local community college. Refreshments will be served.
