IVCCD receives $100,000 Intermediary Grant

Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS), in conjunction with the Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Preparation within the Iowa Department of Education, has announced that Iowa Valley Community College District will receive an IVRS grant of $100,000 to establish Intermediary Networks. The 14 community colleges awarded an Intermediary Network grant will work with IVRS-eligible or potentially eligible high school students who receive education services under an Individual Education Plan or Section 504 Plan.

According to Sandy Supianoski, IVCE Employer Relations Supervisor and grant administrator, the goal of an Intermediary Network is to increase capacity for work-based learning opportunities for students with disabilities. The VR-Intermediary Network representative will expand work-based learning opportunities for students with disabilities in targeted school districts through extensive work with local business and industry, and in collaboration with the services and support needs of the IVRS counselor and school district staff.

Primary responsibilities under this grant will involve developing and leading initiatives and projects that create robust partnerships with regional K-12 school districts, businesses, industries, organizations, and other community partnerships to enhance career-awareness, work-site based learning opportunities, and early career connections and opportunities within the college’s service area for students with disabilities.
