IVCCD approves ECC Math-Science remodeling bid

The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors has approved low bid of $1,347,722 from Woodruff Construction of Ames for a renovation of the Math-Science Building at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. The bid, approved at a special Board meeting on Mar. 27, includes three alternates for additional lighting, replacement of electrical panels, and additional flooring replacements.

According to Dr. Martin Reimer, ECC Provost, the Math-Science Building was constructed in 1971 and has had minimal updates since that time. ECC staff and students had input into the project, which includes the addition of a gathering/study area and overall remodeling improvements and updates throughout the building. “The remodeling will create a student-focused environment that will enhance the educational experiences of those students and staff members,” said Reimer.

Other bidders were Henkel Construction of Ames and Garling Construction of Belle Plaine.

Architect David Schulze of TSP, Inc., said he was pleased with the bids, and that Woodruff has confirmed that it can meet the required timeline of having the building substantially completed before the start of fall term classes on Aug. 17.

IVCCD Vice Chancellor of Finance/CFO Kathy Pink said the project will be paid with a combination of saved and anticipated ACE infrastructure funds from the State of Iowa, as well as District funds.
