Orpheum hosts Blues & BBQ on Oct. 13

The Blue Dog Band

The Blue Dog Band returns to Marshalltown on Saturday, Oct. 13, to provide music for this year’s Blues & BBQ event; Bob Dorr and The Limestoners will also perform. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Orpheum Theater.

The Orpheum Theater Center hosts the third annual Blues & BBQ event on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 9:30 pm in Dejardin Hall at the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Center. The venue is located at 3702 S. Center St. in Marshalltown, on the southwest corner of the Iowa Valley/MCC campus.

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased in advance by calling 641-844-5920. The ticket price includes a barbecue meal and beverage, which will be served at 6 pm. Advanced ticket reservations are strongly encouraged, for meal count purposes. Those buying tickets the day of the show are likely (but not guaranteed) to be offered food.

This year two bands will perform: The Blue Dog Band and Bob Dorr & The Limestoners. The Blue Dog Band from Iowa City brings a Chicago-style combination of drums, guitar, bass and harmonica to the stage, playing the classic sounds of B.B. King and Muddy Waters as well as the more modern fare of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Bob Dorr is well known as an Iowa Blues Hall of Famer, and has combined with The Limestoners to continue entertaining audiences around the Midwest. Between the two groups, you’ll enjoy master blues at its best!

Dinner will be served at 6 pm the night of the performance. The Blue Dog Band will take the stage from 6:30 to 7:45, followed by Bob Dorr’s Limestoners from 8 to 9. The evening will conclude with a final set featuring both bands.

The Blues & BBQ event is partially underwritten by a grant from the Martha-Ellen Tye Foundation.

The IVCCD Orpheum Theater Center is owned and operated by Iowa Valley Community College District and demonstrates IVCCD’s vitality and commitment to partnering, educating and building our communities.
