Iowa Valley’s Chancellor Search process moves forward

The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors approved a Chancellor Search hiring process and materials and named its Search Committee when it met this week in Marshalltown. Current IVCCD Chancellor Dr. Chris Duree will retire June 30, and it is anticipated that the successor will be named in April.

Advertisements for the Chancellor position will be posted starting Jan. 15, and the closing date is Feb. 15. The Search Committee, which includes staff, community members, and Foundation and Trustee representatives, meets for the first time on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Search Committee members are Robin Anctil, IVCCD Marketing Director; Honoria Balogh, ECC English Faculty; Terry Buzbee, Retired Group Vice President at Emerson Process Management; PJ Colbert, MCC English Faculty; Jacque Goodman, IVCCD Vice Chancellor of Continuing Education; Lee Haupert, MCC Foundation Board Member; Larry Johnson, IVCCD Board President; Deb Jones, IVCCD Board Member; Darwin Miller, Ellsworth College Trustee Board President & Foundation Member; Mike Mosher, IVCCD Chief Information Officer; MaryAnne Nickle, Dean of Iowa Valley Grinnell; Roger Nissly, Ellsworth College Foundation Board President; Joerg Rochlitzer, ECC Social Sciences Faculty; Valerie Ruiz, MCC Academic Advising Specialist; Sandy Supianoski, IVCE Employer Relations Supervisor; and Bob Untiedt, Orpheum Theater Center Director. Ad hoc committee members are Dr. Larry Ebbers, Search Consultant; Barb Jennings, IVCCD Assistant to the Chancellor/Board Secretary; and Colleen Springer, IVCCD Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services.

The Chancellor Search process includes reviewing applications Feb. 20 to Mar. 1, interviewing via Zoom technology Mar. 7-8, recommending 3-5 finalist candidates to the IVCCD Board, and the Board conducting personal interviews Mar. 18-29. The IVCCD Board hopes to announce the new Chancellor at its April 10 meeting, with a start date to be determined. In other matters, the Board approved the following:

  • Agreements with architectural firm TSP Inc. for re-roofing and installing 114 new windows at Thompson Hall dormitory at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. Bid-letting will happen at a subsequent Board meeting, and the work is expected to be done in the spring and summer months.
  • A 260F Iowa Jobs Training Agreement with PurFoods LLC of Grinnell, which processes ready-to-eat, home-delivered meals. The $20,000 agreement will provide 122 employees with training in computer, business skills, safety, and technical production training. This is IVCCD’s first job training contract with PurFoods, which is in the process of expanding its facility.
  • A 260F Iowa Jobs Training Agreement with Metal Tech Industries of Iowa Falls to provide $10,436 to train 15 employees in marketing, quality, and business skills. This is Iowa Valley’s 7th job training project with Metal Tech since 2002.
  • A third extension of the lease agreement with Iowa Workforce Development for IWD’s continued use of the R.M. Wolfe Center through March 2019.

The Board heard a report from Kevin Murphy on the District’s insurance coverage through the Insurance Management Program for Area Community Colleges (IMPACC) and a report on how the District markets its programs and services from Robin Anctil, Marketing Director.

The next regular meeting of the IVCCD Board will be on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 4 pm in the District Administration building on the Iowa Valley/MCC campus in Marshalltown.
