$430,000 Jobs Training approved for Swift/JBS

The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors approved a $430,000 Industrial New Jobs Training Agreement with Swift Pork Company/JBS when it met this week in Marshalltown. The opportunity for the training agreement was uniquely provided by the Iowa Legislature (in its Education Appropriations bill) due to the impact of the July 2018 tornado.
According to Jacque Goodman, Iowa Valley Vice Chancellor of Education & Training, the JBS Distribution Center received significant damage due to the tornado and 93 employees in that area were temporarily dislocated. That damage qualified the company for a special 206E Industrial New Jobs Training Agreement, which will be used to provide technical and safety-related training for the 93 employees impacted.
“The amount of the agreement is directly related to the number of employees impacted,” Goodman explained to the Board. “In addition to the technical and safety training, the agreement will also include some on-the-job training for selected employees in the Distribution Center. It’s really a win-win-win for JBS, the community, and Iowa Valley which would have not been possible without the support of Iowa Economic Development Authority, Marshall Economic Development, and our legislators.”
