IVCCD extends Intermediary Network program to Grinnell-Newburg

The IVCCD Board of Directors approved adding Grinnell-Newburg Community School District to its Intermediary Network Services contract when it met this week. Offered in partnership with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Iowa Valley’s Intermediary Program is a work-based learning program designed to help prepare students to be successful as they transition into the workforce by connecting them to local businesses to explore an assortment of fulfilling career options through work-based learning.

Iowa Valley Intermediary Program partners with educators and businesses to create a positive and lasting impression on the future workforce by helping them attain the appropriate skills and knowledge of careers in their interest so they can be better prepared for life after high school and make better post-secondary decisions. Additional information about the Intermediary program is online at www.IVIntermediary.com.

In other action, the Board approved an updated Voluntary Early Retirement Incentive Plan for qualified employees who have been continually employed by the District on at least a half-time basis for the most recent 10 consecutive years. Those eligible for the incentive plan must apply for retirement by Jan. 31, 2020; the actual retirement date would be June 30, 2020 unless extenuating circumstances are approved.

The Board received two gifts: $2,500 donated by JBS and UFCW Local 1149 for tuition scholarships to Iowa Valley Continuing Education for ESL, HSED and Citizenship classes, and PVC pipes donated by Theisen’s to Marshalltown Community College for the Iowa Valley Grinnell Haunted Halls of Horror event.

The next regular meeting of the IVCCD Board will be Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 4 pm in the District Administration Building at 3702 S. Center St. in Marshalltown. A reception for retiring Board Director Deborah Crosser of Eldora will be held from 3 to 3:50 pm prior to the Board meeting.
