Marshalltown Community College Announces Matt Schmit as New Provost

Matt-Schmit Marshalltown Community College (MCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Schmit as its new Provost, effective June 3, 2024.

His experience spans across Campus Operations, Student Development, Academics, and Workforce Development.

Prior to his career in academia, Schmit brings valuable real-world experience from the private sector. He spent 12 years in logistics, culminating in his role as Vice President of Asset Management at Dohrn Transfer in Rock Island, Illinois.

Schmit holds a distinguished academic background, with a PhD in Higher Education Administration from Iowa State University, a Master of Public Administration from Drake University, and a B.A in Economics from Cornell College. He is also a graduate of the Iowa State Community College Leadership Initiative Consortium (CLIC) in 2014.

“We are thrilled to welcome Matt Schmit to the MCC family,” said Dr. Anne Howsare Boyens, President of Iowa Valley Community College District. “His impressive blend of leadership experience, both in higher education and the private sector, coupled with his strong academic credentials, make him the ideal candidate to lead our academic programs and initiatives.”
