George Johnson started teaching in the Iowa Valley Community College District in 1982 – yes a long time ago. As a firm believer in the concept of “if you don’t like something—leave,” he has stayed because according to him “I truly love teaching the first two years of a college degree.” George taught his first five years at Ellsworth Community College, then moved to Marshalltown Community College and has been teaching there ever since. He teaches Introduction to Business, Sales, Marketing, International Business, Customer Services Strategies and for a change of pace the Team Building class. Prior to teaching here he worked a variety of small business retail oriented jobs including ownership of a small soft lines store.

George has an A.A. from Marshalltown Community College, a B.A. in Spanish from UNI, an M.A. in Marketing Education from UNI and an M.B.A. from NOVA University. George has kept up by taking a wide variety of classes in areas such as Counseling, Sports Marketing, Internationalization and teaching methods. He is also a certified ropes course instructor at the IVCCD ropes course on campus. Aside from this, he also secret shops for select businesses and consults with small business.

George is married, and enjoys spending time with the younger nieces and nephews, traveling, antiquing, and seems to have a thing for flamingos and Marilyn Monroe (just look into his office). He is a HUGE supporter of MCC Tiger athletics – having been the cheer coach for 10 years – and can be seen at most athletic events. When not doing the above he enjoys getting out and exercising, mainly long walks.
