Honoria Balogh, a native of former Czechoslovakia, grew up in a bilingual Hungarian-Slovak family. In 1996, she graduated from Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra with a masters in English and Russian languages and a teaching degree. She studied abroad and traveled extensively throughout her college years, including Ireland, Russia, Great Britain, Hungary, and the United States. Honoria’s past experiences included teaching English at private language schools, lecturing at the Slovak University of Agriculture, broadcasting at a local radio station, and translating and interpreting for various business clients.

Honoria met her husband Kevin, an ECC alumnus, through an international exchange program and followed him to Iowa to establish a life together. She started working at the College in February of 2000. She has held several different positions throughout the years, including Assistant to the Academic Dean, Instructional Designer, and Director of Distance Education. She started teaching English and ESL courses at the College as an adjunct instructor in 2002 and developed her first online classes in 2007. She earned her second master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages) from the University of Northern Iowa in 2009. Honoria joined the ranks of full-time faculty in 2012. She is a member of several professional organizations, including Instructional Technology Council, National Council of Teachers of English, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is also a certified Quality Matters Peer Reviewer.

In her spare time, Honoria loves spending time and traveling with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys reading, sewing, and watching her daughters show livestock and llamas. The family has hosted three international exchange students in the past few years. Honoria is also a volunteer leader of the Ellis Jackson Ag Stars 4-H Club in Iowa Falls.
