May 2017 IVCCD Board Report

A variety of projects occupied the Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors when it met this week in Marshalltown.

A series of resolutions was approved by the Board authorizing the issuance, sale and delivery of $245,000 Industrial New Jobs Training Certificates, Series 2017-1. On the recommendation of a representative of Speer Financial, the District accepted the low interest rate bid of 3.115 percent from UMB Bank in Kansas City, MO for those certificates. The certificates will be used for a variety of upcoming Industrial New Jobs Training projects over several years.

A 260F Iowa Job Training Agreement was approved in the amount of $12,859 with Ryerson Inc. of Marshalltown. Ryerson employs 34 people and processes steel into smaller coils and sheets. This is Iowa Valley’s sixth contract with Ryerson, which will use this training agreement to train 15 employees in Safety.

In other matters, the Board approved: a six-year contract with the Iowa Department of Human Services to provide High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) instruction and testing to students at the State Training School in Eldora; a one-year price increase of 2.4 percent for dining and catering services provided by Great Western Dining Service to Ellsworth Community College; a bus leasing agreement with MaTran for 25-passenger and 40-passenger vehicles to be used by the Marshalltown Athletics Department; approval of a five-year copier lease agreement with Koch Brothers of Des Moines/Cedar Rapids, membership dues for the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees, and revisions to several Board policies.

Fees for 13 courses were added and/or adjusted to reflect the cost of new courses/programming or increased costs for existing courses. Adjustments were made for selected fees relating to Automotive Repair Technology, Bowling, Equine, First Aid, Gunsmith Technology, Line Utility Technology, Nursing, OSHA, Radiation, SENSE, and Shooting Sports.

The Board accepted two gifts designated for the Iowa Valley Grinnell Automotive Repair Technology program, including a full size pickup transfer case and Ford Fusion transmission donated by Jensen Inc. and a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix donated by Ellen Lengel. The MCC Powerline Technician program also received two gifts, including cable and wire given by Consumers Energy and a 4/0 protective ground set given by Alliant Energy.

Closed sessions were held by the Board for collective bargaining strategy and Dr. Chris Duree’s annual performance evaluation. No action was taken upon returning to open session.

The next regular meeting of the IVCCD Board will be Wednesday, June 14, at 4 pm at Iowa Valley Grinnell. There will be an open house hosted by the IVG Gunsmith Technology and Automotive Repair Technology programs from 3 to 4 pm that day.
