Focus groups scheduled for IVCCD Chancellor search

The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors will host a series of forums to provide opportunities for community members, employees and students to have input into the process of searching for a replacement for IVCCD Chancellor Dr. Chris Duree, who will retire on June 30, 2019. The forums will be conducted by Dr. Larry Ebbers, who has been hired by the Board to develop a profile for the next chancellor.

Participants at the forums will be asked to respond to two questions: 1) What personal and professional characteristics should the new IVCCD Chancellor possess? And 2) What should be the primary focus areas of the new Chancellor for moving the District forward?

Forums will be conducted in Marshalltown, Grinnell and Iowa Falls as follows:

  • Monday, Dec. 3, at the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Center (rooms 610/612), 3702 S. Center St.: Community Members from 7:30 to 8:30 am, IVCCD Employees & Students, from 9:30 to 10:30 am or noon to 1 pm.
  • Monday, Dec. 3, at Iowa Valley Grinnell (room 145), 123 6th W: Community Members, Employees & Students from 4 to 5 pm.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Ellsworth Community College (Gentle Student Center, formal dining room), 1100 College Ave.: Community Members from 7:30 to 8:30 am, IVCCD Employees & Students from 9:30 to 10:30 am or noon to 1 pm.

Those unable to attend at their group’s scheduled time are welcome to attend any of the other forums. Those who cannot attend the forums can complete an online survey to respond to the two questions; the survey is online at and will remain open until midnight on Friday, Dec. 7.

After giving faculty, staff, students and community members an opportunity to communicate directly with Dr. Ebbers, the Board will approve a position profile, update the job description, and advertise the position in January with the intent of reviewing applications in March.
