Django Shredders

The Django Shredders

The Orpheum Theater Center hosts The Django Shredders on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 7 to 9 pm. This gypsy jazz guitar concert will be held in the Orpheum Theater Center’s Black Box Theater at 220 E. Main St. in Marshalltown. Admission is $12.50 per person.

The Django Shredders are two artists, Alex Ciavarelli and Rudy Marquez, who are skilled in the gypsy jazz tradition. They have also researched gypsy jazz history and often present a story, with music, of the person who is credited with creating this form of melodious, lively jazz: Django Reinhardt. The musicians not only know and respect the tradition of the music they perform, but are great performers of it themselves. Marquez and Ciavarelli are young jazz guitarists with amazing skills who bring exuberant energy coupled with virtuosity beyond their years to the late master’s convoluted renderings of what we now call gypsy jazz.

The Django Shredders have held court in the deep talent pools at Django Vegas and the San Diego Gypsy Jazz Festival. Their engagements this season include residencies in the Sonoma County Libraries as well as for Green Valley Recreation in Arizona, and an appearance at Bothwell Arts Center in Livermore, CA. They’re also performing at the Des Moines Social Club this fall.

You can hear the Django Shredders’ music on the Marian Liebowitz Artist Management website.
