IVCCD Board Learns of Plans to Re-Open Campuses
The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors learned about a tentative plan to return to campus, beginning in June. The campuses have never closed; they have been providing classes and services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, despite being closed to the public. The return to campus plan prioritizes public health and safety considerations, educational programming, and enrollment activities. The plan reserves gatherings for student-focused activities, with the key exception of primary voting as the Ellsworth campus serves as a primary voting location. The District is also working on a business continuity plan for future disruptions to normal campus operations, incorporating best practices learned throughout this pandemic.
The Board also heard a breakdown of the CARES Act funding received by the colleges. Fifty percent of the funds awarded to the college will be used to mitigate the financial impact on the college, and fifty percent of the funds will go directly to students. The student aid funds are to be disbursed to students in the form of emergency financial aid grants for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare expenses.
IVCCD Board Reviews Affirmative Action Plan
The Board also reviewed the Affirmative Action plan. The plan included salary comparisons by gender, minority representation on the IVCCD staff, ethnicity in minority groups and comparisons between the Iowa Valley Community College District and like colleges in our state. The Affirmative Action plan must be reviewed and approved by the Board every two years.
New Simulation Equipment on Marshalltown Campus
The Board learned about new John Deere simulation equipment that will be on the Marshalltown campus. The simulator will teach backhoe and excavator controls. This equipment will be used by the utility tech program, specifically the power line and gas line programs.
The next regular meeting of the IVCCD Board will be Wednesday, June 10, at 4:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Office location.
