Friday / August 14, 2020
Larry W. Johnson, Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board Member of 34 years, was honored with the John P. Kibbie Award by the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT) during the August 12 Board Meeting.
With nearly 34 years of dedicated service, Johnson is the longest-serving Board Member in the history of the District. Not only has Larry served on the Board longer than anyone in its history, but he has also served as President or Vice President of the Board on multiple occasions.
Director Johnson has been the consummate board member. He regularly attends college and IACCT events, participates in fundraising and legislative advocacy throughout IVCCD, and has been a deeply engaged community member in Iowa Falls. Additionally, Larry has served on the Ellsworth College Foundation Board for 30 years.
During his tenure as an IVCCD Board member, the District has passed two bond referendums, expanded and upgraded numerous facilities, and added new instructional programs for students. Everything IVCCD has accomplished over Larry’s tenure is not only admirable, but has his footprint of support, passion, and commitment behind it.
The John P. Kibbie Trustee Award is presented to someone currently serving as a Trustee at an Iowa Community College who has aided in developing innovative programs used in two-year postsecondary institutions; has been influential in promoting a community college education; has been instrumental in solving challenges facing two-year educational institutions; and has been active in developing, organizing, or supporting state two-year post-secondary associations.
