IVCCD Board Reviews COVID Safety Protocols
MARSHALLTOWN – The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors learned about the disruptions of the athletic seasons due to COVID-19. Nate Forsyth, Athletic Director at Ellsworth Community College, and John Kriebs, Athletic Director at Marshalltown Community College reported on the NJCAA decision to delay fall sports until the spring semester. While many of the teams have been able to scrimmage this fall, competition will be held during the spring term for all activities including football (Ellsworth) and Volleyball (Marshalltown). The teams are facing challenges such as game day protocols, game schedules, post-season tournaments, fan attendance and transportation.
IVCCD Approves Schedule Modification for Spring Semester
The Board approved plans to modify the schedule for the spring term and remove spring break. The semester will begin a week later and will reduce the time for travel during the spring months. This modification is designed to reduce the potential for the spread of COVID-19.
Orpheum Lease Extended
The lease agreement between Marshall County and the Iowa Valley Community College District has been extended through August 31, 2021. Though jury trials have been suspended until February 1, 2021, the Iowa Courts system is using the downtown theater for non-trial proceedings.
The next board meeting is scheduled for December 9 and will be held via Zoom.
