Larry Johnson to Continue as President of the IVCCD Board
MARSHALLTOWN – The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors elected officers for the 2021 calendar year. Larry Johnson will continue as Board President, Paul Pohlson will serve as Vice President. Barbara Jennings will continue to serve as Board Secretary, and Kathleen Pink will continue as Board Treasurer. Subcommittees of the Board will be determined at the January Board meeting.
Iowa Valley Continuing Education Presents on Business Outreach Efforts
Serving the local business needs is the central focus of the business outreach coordinators. Neysa Hartzler, Val Ruff and Morgan Frederick reported on efforts to support local business partners. Efforts include virtual training and email campaigns to communicate our course offerings to manufacturers. IVCE has also created a specialized training program, MAKE It Your Future, to train unemployed or underemployed workers.
Bond Projects Open for Bids
The first major bond construction project made possible by voters in November 2019 has been made available to bidders. The project focuses on the Iowa Valley Grinnell campus with improvements to the Gunsmithing lab and the entry. Project costs are estimated at $873,000 and the bid will be awarded on February 15 with a targeted completion date of September 3.
Iowa Valley Education and Training Center Received Donation
A local organization, 100 Women Who Care, recently selected the Iowa Valley Education and Training Center as the organization to receive individual donations from their membership. The ETC received $12,900 from the organization, which will provide scholarships for students who attend classes at the center for High School Equivalency Diplomas (HSED) and English as a Second Language (ESL), and study for the US Citizenship exams.
Voluntary Retirement Approved for IVCCD Faculty and Staff
The following faculty and staff members were approved for early retirement: Hashem Hashemi-Toroghi (32 years), Brenda Heitmeyer (19 years), Carrie Osborn (25 years), Kathy Pink (23 years), Jan Seim (22 years), Donna Thompson (10 years), Barb Wright (30 years). At the November Board meeting, applications for voluntary early retirement from George Johnson, Kevin Cartier, and Dave Engle were approved as well.
The next board meeting is scheduled for January 13, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. and will be held via Zoom.
