IVCCD Board Learns of Construction Plans

MARSHALLTOWN – The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors approved plans for an interior renovation project on the Marshalltown campus at Wednesday night’s board meeting. The scope of the remodel will include Dejardin Hall, lobby, entrance, restrooms, and hallway in the Iowa Valley Continuing Education wing. Marshalltown Community College’s library and student success center will be consolidated to better serve students’ academic needs. The computer labs, Veteran’s lounge, and restrooms will also be included in the renovation. The former Tiger Tots daycare center is being renovated for the Marketing and printing services offices and to allow for the expansion of the library and student success center.

The Board approved the recommendation to contract with Garling Construction, out of Belle Plaine, Iowa, for the Iowa Valley Grinnell Gunsmithing and Entry Improvement project, in the amount of $614,500. The project includes an update to the Gunsmithing space, creating a new polishing lab, and a new public entry for that program.

New Academic Programs Approved

The Board learned about two new academic programs to be offered at Ellsworth Community College, Graphic Design and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Martin Reimer, Provost of Ellsworth Community College noted that the Pre-Veterinary Medicine program will be the only one of its kind in Iowa.

Jobs Training Programs – Alliant Energy and Manatts

The Board approved plans to continue job training programs with Alliant Energy and Manatts. Iowa Valley Continuing Education will fulfill the training as part of a larger effort to provide skills and leadership training to area employers.

The next board meeting is scheduled for March 3, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. and will be held via Zoom.
