MCC Provost Matt Schmit and a representative from Minnesota State University, Mankato, sign the official articulation agreement on December 2, establishing a seamless BSN pathway for IVCCD nursing students.

MARSHALLTOWN, IA – Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) has officially partnered with Minnesota State University, Mankato to create a seamless pathway for nursing students to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

On December 2, 2025, officials signed an articulation agreement, effective immediately, that allows graduates from Marshalltown Community College and Ellsworth Community College to transition directly from their Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Nursing degree into Minnesota State Mankato’s BSN program.

The program is designed for working professionals, offering a 100% online curriculum and a flexible timeline. Students work closely with Minnesota State Mankato advisors and have the cost-saving option to complete elective courses at IVCCD to transfer into the program.

“Registered Nurses are required to hold an Associate Degree. Although a Bachelor’s degree is not required, nurses are life-long learners,” said Beth Johanns, IVCCD Associate Dean of Health Occupations. “Earning the Bachelor’s degree and BSN credential showcases the nurse’s knowledge and leadership skills to their patients and families. Many employers offer tuition reimbursement to their nurses who are furthering their education.”

IVCCD provides a comprehensive nursing ladder, including a one-year Practical Nursing Diploma and a two-year AAS Nursing Degree. This new partnership ensures that students at both MCC and ECC campuses have a clear, supported route to higher education and leadership roles in healthcare.
