IVCCD Board Report – June 9 Meeting

IVCCD Board Approves Training Agreement

MARSHALLTOWN – The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors approved a new subcontract between Iowa Valley Community College District and Kirkwood Community College beginning July 1, 2021, to support individuals in training with food assistance. Eligible students will receive food assistance by applying to DHS through IVCCD, and utilize service and funds with our existing WTED and Gap/PACE programs for tuition, job readiness skills, wrap-around services, and case management services. IVCCD will receive 50 percent reimbursement for those non-federal funds spent on the eligible students. The goal of the program is to provide assistance for the most vulnerable population and improve the likelihood that the students will finish their education and training, and go on to be employed locally.

Updated Tuition, Housing, and Meal Plan Rates for the 2021-22 Academic Year

The Board also approved tuition, and housing, and meal plan rates for the upcoming academic year. The District has worked hard to keep rates affordable for all students, and the tuition increase represents some of the lowest increases throughout the state. Tuition will increase by $3 per credit hour for in-state students and $6 per credit hour for out-of-state students.

Update on Bond Projects

The Board approved the bid for the Marshalltown exterior building improvements project that includes replacing roofs and repairing precast exteriors of buildings on the Marshalltown campus. The Board also held a public hearing on the plans for the Ellsworth locker room and activity center project. The date of the bid opening is scheduled for July 8. The Board also held a public hearing for the Marshalltown and Ellsworth fiber optic projects, and bid openings for those projects will also take place on July 8.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for July 14, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. and will be held via Zoom.
