IVCCD Approves Sale of Orpheum Theater

IOWA FALLS – The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors approved a Letter of Intent for the sale of the Orpheum Theater Center to the Marshalltown Community School District at the Board meeting on Wednesday, September 8. The school district will take over possession in 2022. The transfer of ownership will fulfill the District’s goal of ensuring the historic theater remain a community asset while expanding the educational offerings in the community. The theater is currently being used by the Iowa Court system for overflow court proceedings while the Marshall County courthouse remains under construction.

District Awards Honor to Former Chancellor

Dr. Christopher Duree was honored as Chancellor Emeritus of Iowa Valley Community College District. The honor was bestowed on the former chancellor because of his distinguished service to the District and continued commitment throughout his retirement. Duree served as Chancellor to the District from 2009 to 2019.

New Ellsworth Residence Hall to be Named for Longtime Dean

The Board approved a resolution to name the new residence hall being constructed at Ellsworth Community College. The residence hall will bear the name Duane and Phyllis Lloyd Residence Hall. Duane moved to Iowa falls in 1965 to join the staff at Ellsworth Community College first serving as Director of Admissions, and then serving as Dean of Instruction and Dean of the college until retiring in 1995. Upon retirement, Duane was the Director of Development for the Ellsworth Community College Foundation Board for nine years and served as a member of the ECC Foundation Board from 2004 until the time of his death.

Job Training Agreements Authorized

The Board approved two training agreements, including a 260F training agreement between Iowa Valley and Bruin Manufacturing Company. The training agreement is notable because training will be provided by both Iowa Valley Continuing Education and Marshalltown Community College. A second 260F training agreement was approved between Iowa Valley Continuing Education and D & B Agro Systems.

 

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for October 13, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. and will be held via Zoom.
