IVCCD Board Approves Jobs Training Programs

The IVCCD Board of Directors approved three jobs training agreements during the Board meeting. The training agreements will be facilitated through Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions, leveraging 260F grant funds. The training agreements include: Mechdyne Corporation for the amount of $49,594, Alkegen (formerly known as Lydall, and originally known as Cooper Manufacturing) for the amount of $28,462, and Barnhart Electric for the amount of $9,332. This training program helps Iowa businesses fund customized training for current employees. The grants are designed to cover basic adult education, job-related instruction (or on-the-job training), skills assessments, testing and evaluation of employees, and travel reimbursement.

Board Discussed Presidential Search

With the announcement that Dr. Kristie Fisher will take over as President of Kirkwood Community College, based in Cedar Rapids, the search will begin to find her replacement. The Board approved a contract with Dr. Larry Ebbers, who will lead the search for her replacement. Directors Jones and Hofer will co-chair the search committee.

“While I am excited to return to my alma mater as president, I will miss Iowa Valley deeply, said Dr. Fisher. “We have accomplished so much in four years including a $32 million bond referendum that has transformed our campuses, improved the student experience, and positioned us to better serve our communities. We have also turned the enrollment tide with growing enrollment this academic year. And we have developed new programs to serve students and our local employers. I am proud of our work.”

Board Approves Fee Adjustments

The Board approved modest course fee increases for the 2023-24 academic year. The increases will vary by course and will be used to offset costs for supplies.

Board Approves Contract with BSN Sports

The Board approved a five-year agreement between the District and BSN Sports for branded uniforms, apparel, and footwear for the athletic departments.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for June 14, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. and will be available via Zoom.
