IVCCD Announces Staffing Changes

After an exhaustive search, the Iowa Valley Community College District has named Gena Garber to the role of CFO, Vice-Chancellor of Administration. Garber will be serving as Chief Financial Officer, a position vacated by a retirement in June of 2021. She will oversee business operations for the District.

Garber was hired in May 2020 as the Director of Human Resources for the District. In addition to experience in HR, she had experience in financial roles and was licensed as a CPA early in her career.

“We are thrilled Ms. Garber was up to the challenge of this new role, especially so early in her tenure with Iowa Valley,” said Dr. Kristie Fisher, Chancellor of Iowa Valley Community College District. “We interviewed several very qualified candidates for the position, but at the end of the day, she was the right fit for the position with her unique blend of experience.”

The move left an open position in Human Resources for the District. Sara Aguilera was promoted to Associate Director of Human Resources to fill this vacancy. Aguilera was hired with a wealth of experience in recruiting and people management experience and has been serving the district as a Human Resources Coordinator for 2 years.

“Sara Aguilera has proven herself to be an invaluable member of the District since joining the organization in 2020,” said Garber. “I am delighted she is open to this new opportunity.”

With the position realignment, the District also promoted Amanda Bloomquist to Director of Financial Services. Amanda has served the District for a little over seven years in numerous roles in the Business office.

“It is exciting to be able to promote Amanda Bloomquist,” said Garber. “She has grown in her position, and is always looking for ways to improve the service we provide our internal customers.”

Garber, Aguilera, and Bloomquist have assumed their new roles, which were announced publicly at the April 13 Board of Directors meeting.
