Iowa Valley Community College District Board Approves Technology Upgrades, Training Partnerships, Campus Improvements

The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors convened for its monthly meeting, taking action to advance technology, support workforce development, and enhance campus infrastructure across the district.

The Board approved a Kaltura Video Storage and Management Solution Agreement for a total of $42,500 over three years. This new cloud-based video platform will replace the District’s outdated system, providing a better user interface and improved compliance with accessibility standards, including automated, high-accuracy AI captioning. The solution will allow students to easily search transcripts for specific content and will reduce the need for on-premise hardware and maintenance. The agreement includes a three-year subscription for up to 2,000 users and 60 TB of annual bandwidth and storage.

In a continued effort to support student well-being, the Board approved a contract with Achieve Mental Health Inc. to provide mental health services for students at Ellsworth Community College (ECC). This marks the sixth year of the partnership, which provides a staff person on campus for a minimum of four hours a week, along with telehealth options. The open hours for students will be from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Board advanced several capital projects, including:

• MCC Dorm Roof Repair: The Board approved a $10,750 proposal with Clapsaddle-Garber Associates, Inc. (CGA) for civil design services to address water damage in the east dorm caused by a recent storm. This project is expected to be completed in 2026.
• New MCC Trades Building: A $34,000 proposal with CGA was approved to provide civil design services for a new Trades Building at Marshalltown Community College. This building, which will be similar to a Morton building, will accommodate storage for the utility tech program and will be located near the softball fields.
• Student Housing at MCC: The Board approved a $63,500 proposal with Shive-Hattery for schematic design services for Phase 1, Building 1 of a new student housing at MCC. The project is in response to the dorms being at maximum capacity.
• ECC Math and Science Roof Replacement: The Board approved a bid of $354,841 for a roof replacement project at Ellsworth Community College. The bid from Black Hawk Roof Company was one of four bids.

In workforce development, the Board approved a 260F Iowa Jobs Training Agreement with Lennox Industries for $30,590. This marks the eighth project with the Marshalltown-based company. The agreement provides a customized 9-week leadership program to help promote employees from the factory floor to leadership positions.
