IOWA FALLS – If you knew Dale Howard, then you surely knew Marilyn. Together, they made a mark like no other, embracing philanthropy not just as a duty, but as a way of life. Where others saw obstacles, they saw opportunity. Guided by their deep faith and a shared giving spirit, they viewed life through a lens of infinite possibility, allowing them to create a profound and lasting impact. They centered their lives on a singular, powerful question: How can we make a difference?

In 2009, they did exactly that, leaving an indelible mark across both the Iowa Falls community and the Ellsworth Community College campus. The opening of the Dale Howard Family Activity Center marked a historic milestone; one made possible through the profound generosity and vision of a cornerstone gift from the Howard family.

The facility quickly became the heart of the community. It grew into a vibrant gathering place for sporting events, health and wellness, and an after-school hangout for local kids. It’s a welcoming space where people of all ages and from all walks of life can come together and reach new heights.

At Ellsworth Community College, the center fundamentally elevated the student experience. Beyond expanding the physical beauty of the campus, it provides students with a safe, energetic environment to study, socialize, and connect, truly transforming on-campus life.

Following Marilyn’s passing in October of 2025, her legacy, much like Dale’s, shines brightly as a guiding light for future generations. Because their impact was always a joint effort, it is only fitting that the facility be rededicated to reflect their combined devotion. On May 9, 2026, the center was officially renamed to honor Marilyn alongside her husband. What once presented Dale’s name alone is now a complete reflection of their united commitment.

Ellsworth Community College is deeply honored to formally introduce the Dale and Marilyn Howard Family Activity Center. While the name on the building now feels complete, we know the legacy Dale and Marilyn left behind will never fade. As a college and a community, we are profoundly grateful to have witnessed their grace and generosity. To the entire Howard family: thank you for your unwavering support.
