Ensuring Accessible Education for All

We are committed to an inclusive learning environment at Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and Ellsworth Community College (ECC). We provide reasonable accommodations and support for students with disabilities. Reasonable accommodations strive to remove barriers, enhance your educational experience, and assist you achieve your academic goals.

Understanding Accessibility and Accommodation Services

Both MCC and ECC offer individualized assistance to students who identify with disabilities and request accommodations. Our dedicated staff members provide advocacy, advice, counseling, and referral information to help eliminate academic, attitudinal, and architectural barriers that hinder successful completion of your studies.

MCC and ECC adhere to all requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and will make reasonable accommodations for any student or patron. Providing services for students with disabilities at the college level differs from high school, so we encourage students to familiarize themselves with our processes.

To ensure you receive the appropriate support, follow these steps to obtain accommodations at either MCC or ECC:

  1. Contact the Disability Services: This is your first step to initiating the accommodation process.
  2. Complete the Online Application Form: You will be asked to complete the online IVCCD Accommodations Form
  3. Submit Documentation: After completing the form, you will need to meet with the Disability Services staff to submit documentation of your disability and review the information.
  4. Develop Your Accommodation Plan: Once documentation is received, and reviewed, if eligible an accommodation plan will be developed based on your individual needs.
  5. Receive Eligibility Letter: A letter documenting your eligibility to receive services will be sent; this letter should be used when visiting with instructors each term.

It is the student’s responsibility to keep instructors informed of continuing or updated needs. Both MCC and ECC recognize that students’ accommodation needs may change, and the accommodation plan may be adjusted accordingly.

Both ECC and MCC prohibit the presence of animals on campus, with the exception of:

Assistance animals may also be identified by other names such as companion animals, therapy animals, and emotional support animals. Approval of the presence of assistance animals must be obtained by the student before such animals are allowed on campus; please refer to Board Policy 526 for more information. Students with service animals and assistance animals are encouraged to contact their respective campus's Disability Services Staff to begin the steps to obtain accommodations.

Some students may be eligible for services provided by the Iowa Division of Vocational Rehabilitation/DVRS (not necessarily veterans). These services can be comprehensive and may include:

  • Complete medical and psychological diagnosis
  • Vocational evaluation and counseling
  • Tuition assistance for academic and vocational training
  • Job placement assistance
  • Prosthetic devices such as artificial limbs, braces, and hearing aids
  • Maintenance and transportation while undergoing vocational rehabilitation
  • Occupational tools, equipment, and business licenses required for placement

Please note that some of the financial assistance offered may be dependent on financial need.
