MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors approved a construction bid for the first phase of Marshalltown Community College's new student housing project and cleared the way for the District's incoming commercial driver's license (CDL) program to hit the road, among other actions taken at its regular meeting Wednesday. 

Student housing construction moves forward 

The board awarded a $182,992 contract to Ciro Dilorio Masonry and Landscaping for Site Design Phase 1 of the MCC Student Housing project, following a competitive bid process that drew five proposals. The award, recommended by project engineers Shive-Hattery, sets site work in motion at the Marshalltown campus ahead of new student housing development. 

CDL program adds second truck 

The district is putting real equipment behind its planned Commercial Driver's License program. The board approved a 72-month lease for a semi-truck through MHC Truck Leasing, adding to a Peterbilt 579 tractor and Benson flatbed trailer the District purchased last month from TMC Truck Sales. 

The equipment supports the new program and Brent Darrah, who joined Business & Community Solutions as Transportation Education Coordinator in June. Darrah brings 14 years of commercial driving experience and seven years as a driving instructor to the role as the district builds toward a target program launch in spring 2027.
