MARSHALLTOWN - Marshalltown Community College alumnus Jon Muller brings his new exhibition, "Lines and Mud," to campus opening Monday, Oct. 12, at the Ray Frederick Art Gallery.
The exhibition showcases an original collection of drawings and pottery. The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Monday, Oct. 12, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. to view the artwork and meet the artist.
For Muller, displaying his work at MCC marks the fulfillment of a long-held goal. After graduating from MCC in the 1980s, he watched the Ray Frederick Art Gallery develop into a prominent space for regional artists.
"Since the MCC Gallery was established, I have wanted to share my artwork there," Muller said. "My love for art and making art has been a lifelong adventure."
Muller’s passion for art grew during his high school years at Iowa City West under the guidance of art teacher Gerald Geekes. Over the years, he has continued to hone his craft through workshops, outdoor exploration, and creative exchanges with fellow artists. His work is also heavily influenced by the architectural legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Through "Lines and Mud," Muller hopes visitors gain a sense of creative encouragement from seeing his drawings and ceramic forms. "My hope is that this exhibit leaves you feeling inspired," he shared.
All pieces on display in the exhibition will be available for purchase.
"Lines and Mud" runs through Friday, Nov. 6, closing at noon.
The Ray Frederick Art Gallery is open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
