MARSHALLTOWN – Marshalltown Community College will host "Art in the Wild," a free two-day outdoor and cultural event on Thursday, Sept. 24, and Friday, Sept. 25. The schedule includes live wood sculpture carving, a poetry workshop with Iowa’s Poet Laureate, local food trucks, and an art gallery exhibit.

Iowa State Fair chainsaw artist Clint Henik, owner of Carve R Way, will perform live carving demonstrations outside the Student Activity Center (SAC) from 8 am to 4 pm both days. Henik will carve two custom sculptures for the campus pond using trees removed during recent nature area renovations. Local food trucks will be on site from 11 am to 2 pm daily.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, at noon, the MCC English Department will host a poetry workshop in DeJardin Hall led by Dr. Paul Brooke, Poet Laureate of Iowa and Endowed Chair of Creative Writing at Grand View University. Dr. Brooke, who has published six books combining poetry and photography, will discuss his creative process and environmental themes. His wildlife photography exhibit, The Pumas and Wildlife of Torres del Paine, Chile, will also be on display in the Ray Frederick Art Gallery through Oct. 2.

All "Art in the Wild" events are free and open to the public.
