Note to Parents/Guardians of Concurrent Enrollment Students

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), colleges are required to keep student records confidential. As a result, communication from Iowa Valley Community College District, including Marshalltown Community College (MCC), Ellsworth Community College (ECC), and Iowa Valley Grinnell, will be sent directly to the student. We encourage you to maintain open communication with your student throughout their coursework.

Helpful Tips:

  • Stay connected through Canvas: Students can log into their Canvas account to review assignments, grades, and attendance with you.
  • Check midterm progress: Midterm grades or pass/fail indicators are available each semester. Students can access these through PawPass.
  • Work with the high school counselor: If concerns arise, your student’s high school counselor is a great resource. Our partnerships with local school districts allow for collaboration and support since concurrent enrollment courses count for both high school and college credit.
  • FERPA release option: Students may choose to grant access to their records. Contact our office for more information on completing a FERPA release form.
